Most people perceive horror fiction as a source of trashy entertainment which enables viewers to experience fear or anxiety in a strictly controlled and sterile environment. The person is able to encounter the abnormal, the grotesque and the nightmare from the perspective devoid of actual threat. However, the word of insanity and terror is very often much closer to the real world. The horror fiction somewhat reflects the anxieties and troubles that bother a given society. The lack of popularity horror genre in countries like Israel to some extent support the theory quoted above. In places where threats of a real world are more horrified and feasible than those presented in movies or books the horror is certainly less popular genre. Nevertheless, a close relation between horror and reality is certainly visible in times of increased political or social tensions.
The aim of this paper is to examine and present links between the real life and horror reality on the basis of George Romero’s ‘Living Dead’ movie series. The series consist of five films which present the troubles and fears that have been bothering the American society during different periods of time.
